Corporate Social Responsibility PDF Print E-mail

As a responsible corporate citizen, we are involved in several activities. We host the secretariat for the Linux Professional Association of Kenya. This is an industry association made up of mainly SME companies that support and implement solutions using free and open source software. We also carry out advocacy activities to raise awareness about FOSS. The aim of the LPA is to enablle our country and the economy to gain the benefits of free and open source software (FOSS). Mr.Ikua, our Lead Consultant, is the current Chairman of the LPA.

The FOSS philosophy is based on the fact that the people should make money from selling software services and not from selling software licenses. FOSS is therefore software that gives the user the freedom to use, the feeedom to distribute and share the software, and the freedom to modify the software. Mr Ikua, LCG lead consultant, is the current chairman of the LPA.

LANet Consulting is also a member of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Technical Committee on IT Security Techniques. This is a voluntary position that is tenable for 3 years till 2011. The aim of this committee is to develop and maintain IT security standards in Kenya.

Mr Ikua, our Lead Consultant also serves a board member for the Coalition for Prison Evangelists (COPE) Kenya Chapter. LANet Consulting recently gave two computers and manuals to the Thika Prison to be used by the prisoners for training. These computers will go a long way in equiping the prisoners with life skills so that they can be responsible citizens once they finish their terms.
